    • USA Track & Field has specific procedures to be followed by disabled athletes wishing to compete in able-bodied competitions against able-bodied Athletics athletes. Please note that the disabled athlete must first meet the eligibility requirements applicable to the relevant competition, including having achieved the required qualifying standard, if any. The disabled athlete is responsible for initiating the ADA Accommodation Request procedures sufficiently in advance to enable USATF to complete its review and decision-making process prior to the relevant competition. Please see the USATF "Policy & Procedures for Accommodation Requests Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act" for more information.

    • 2012 USA Indoor Track & Field Championship Credential Options

      Note – Updates/Changes to credentials cannot be made online once the entry has been completed. However, entrants will be able to make any changes at packet/credential pick-up in Albuquerque.

      Registered Coach “RC”, Warm-up Pass “WP”, and Stadium Pass “SP” credentials are designed to allow an athlete’s coach and/or personal support access to the warm-up area, athlete seating and practice track for the purpose of preparing for competition. An individual must be 18 years of age or older to receive a credential.

      Credentials can be obtained at Packet Pick Up on site in Albuquerque.

      Athletes will receive two complimentary credentials:

      1. 1 Complimentary Credential Option:
        • RC-Registered Coach – This credential gives coach access to warm-up & stadium.
        • Each participating athlete may request one (1) Registered Coach “RC” credential for his or her coach by specifying the name of the individual designated to receive that credential on his or her entry form. There is no fee for this credential. All coaches applying for a “Coach” credential must be a member of USATF and must be a member of the USATF Coaches Registry, prior to receiving a “RC” credential. Individuals must have completed and been approved (be listed on USATF Coaches Registry) prior to their arrival in Albuquerque. You will not have the option to sign up for the Coaches Registry on-site (Albuquerque) to obtain a coaches credential. Coaches cleared through the background screen must also be current (2012) member of USATF to appear on the Coaches Registry.
        • USATF reserves the right to deny or revoke a “RC” credential to any coach who USATF has reason to believe (a) has committed an anti-doping rule violation or materially contributed to the commission of an anti-doping rule violation; or (b) is under investigation by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (“USADA”) or other authorities with respect to a potential anti-doping rules violation; or (c) has engaged in conduct deemed by USATF to reflect a pattern of unethical behavior
      2. 2nd Complimentary Credential Option (pick one of the following):
        • WP – Warm-up Pass – No seat in stadium (can be used for personal medical or other athlete support functions that only need access to the warm-up area). Personal medical receiving this pass must have a medical license on file with Sandy Snow.
          • or
        • SP – Stadium Pass – Stadium access only; no warm-up track access (can be used for family member or friend).
        • Each participating athlete may request only 1 of the options listed above “WP” or “SP” credential for his or her personal support by specifying the name of the individual designated to receive that credential on his or her entry form or at Packet Pick up. There is no fee for this credential. Only the individuals specified by participating athletes for this purpose will be allowed to receive a “WP” or “SP” credential. All individuals applying for a “WP” or “SP” credential must be a current (2012) member of USATF.

          • Must not have a violent felony conviction
          • Must not have a non-violent felony conviction within 3 years
          • Any unauthorized person in possession of a credential and any unauthorized person found in a credential-restricted area (the athlete warm-up areas, or other restricted zones) will be immediately escorted from the facility, the credential will be revoked, and the unauthorized person may be subject to penalty.

    • Awards

      A Gold Medal, emblematic of the Championships of the United States of America, will be given to the winner of each Championship event, a Silver Medal to second place; and Bronze Medals to third and fourth places.

      Prize Money

      For the 2012 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, USA Track & Field will pay prize money to the first through fourth place finishers in each Championship event. The prize structure is as follows:

      1st - $2,500
      2nd - $1,500
      3rd - $500
      4th - $500


      • Athletes with remaining collegiate eligibility are not eligible to receive this prize money.
      • Athletes are eligible to receive prize money in more than one event.
      • Athletes who are eligible to receive prize money will receive their checks via mail (U.S. Postal Service) but only after all drug testing results from USADA have become final. It can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks for USATF receive these results after the last day of competition.

      Other USADA Resources 

      The use of nutritional or dietary supplements is completely at the athlete's own risk - even if the supplement label says "approved" or "verified." USADA's drug reference resources DO NOT provide information about dietary supplements.

      Athletes who participate in this competition are subject to drug testing performed by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in accordance with the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing.

      BE ALERT - Knowing your rights and responsibilities may save you from making a mistake that could jeopardize your athletic career. The use of ALL dietary supplements is "at the athlete's own risk of committing a doping violation."

      BE AWARE - Testing may take place at any time or after any round - preliminary, qualifying, or final - USADA typically selects place finishers and random athletes. Once notified, you will be accompanied by a chaperone  until you report to the Doping Control Station. Athletes must report to the Doping Control Station immediately after notification unless there is an approved reason for delay. Reasons for delay that will be considered include, but are not limited to, retrieving identification, attending an awards ceremony, locating an Athlete Representative, cooling down, media obligations and preparing for another event.  If there is a valid reason for delay, inform the Notifying Chaperone so he/she can confirm with a Doping Control Officer.

      BE CLEAN - Checking to see if the medication you take is allowed could be the difference between passing your test and serving a doping ban. A search on USADA's easy-to-use Global Drug Reference Online™,  or a quick call to USADA's Drug Reference Line™ (1-800-233-0393) , or a review of the Therapeutic Use Exemption procedure will help you understand if a medication is allowed or prohibited.

      BE INFORMED - Watching USADA's short testing video will familiarize you with the drug testing process. When making travel arrangements please allow enough time for drug testing at the end of your event. This will include providing a sample and processing paperwork.

      The adjudication of anti-doping rule violations or refusals to test will be carried out by USADA. Athletes found to have committed a doping violation will be disciplined according to penalties specified by the World Anti-Doping Code and, if appropriate, applicable IAAF rules. Such penalties may result in a period of ineligibility as well as disqualification from the event.

    • Implements & Spikes
      • spikes Only Indoor implements may be used at these championships.
      • Athletes must provide their own implements for practice and competition.
      • Athletes will be permitted to use their own implements for competition, provided they pass the implement inspection. All implements will be impounded after inspection. Implements not passing inspection will be returned after the completion of competition.
      •  Implement weigh-in and inspections will be held in the Albuquerque Convention Center.
      •  Personal implements that are accepted for use in the competition lose identity as privately owned implements for the duration of the competition and may be used by any competitor.
      •  Meet organizers will not provide a supply of implements for use by competitors not wishing to use their own implements or whose implements have not passed inspection.
      • Only ¼ inch “Pyramid Spikes” will be allowed on the competition surface in Albuquerque.  The LOC will have regulation spikes available.  Prohibited spikes include “Christmas Tree Spike Pins” and “Needle Spike Pins.”

      The 2012 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships will serve as the selection meet for the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships to be held in Istanbul, Turkey March 9-11, 2012.

      Because of the limited time between the USA Indoor Championships and the World Indoor Championships, athletes must have a passport valid for at least 6 months past the return date to be considered for the team.

      Team Processing will take place on the 2nd floor of the Albuquerque Convention Center in the Mesilla room. Please note that Team Processing will be conducted on both Saturday and Sunday. All athletes selected as members of the team must attend Team Processing to complete paperwork necessary for entry into the IAAF World Indoor Championships and to make travel arrangements. Athletes will travel as a group to Istanbul and will leave on March 4, 2012 and return on March 12, 2012.  Athletes will receive their uniform package and travel itineraries during Team Processing. Visas are required for entry into Istanbul, so athletes must bring valid passports to Team Processing. Passports must be valid for 6 months past your return date. Team staff will be available in the Mixed Zone to provide further information.

      Athletes should bring the following to team processing:

      • Valid U.S. passport
      • Necessary information to complete forms (contact information for agents, coaches, etc.)
      • Please come prepared to let USATF know if your coach and/or personal medical will be traveling to Istanbul for the Championships.

      The first four (4) places, who have met the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships standard, in all track and field finals should complete paperwork at Team Processing.

      All finalists in the 400m should also complete the team sign-up process in order to be eligible for the national team relay pools.
      All athletes are required to complete Team Processing the day of their final in order to be eligible for the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Those who do not complete Team Processing by 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 26 will forfeit their rank for selection to the IAAF World Indoor Championships. Allowances will be made for athletes who are still in drug testing; however, those athletes must come to Team Processing immediately after they leave drug testing. Please plan your travel so that you have time to complete Team Processing.

    • The Local Organizing Committee will provide airport pick-up at Albuquerque International Sunport for vaulting poles beginning Wednesday February 22, 2012. Upon arrival at Albuquerque Sunport, poles must be left at the Visitor Information Desk to the left side at the bottom of the main baggage claim escalators. Poles will then be taken to the Albuquerque Convention Center, venue for the 2012 USATF Indoor Championships.

      If your arrival is later than the Visitor Information Desk hours, please call 505-977-9264 to make alternate arrangements. Representatives from the LOC will deliver the poles once a day beginning the evening of Wednesday February 22nd. Poles may be claimed by contacting the above phone number.

      When athletes arrive, they will be required to complete a pole check-in form. This form will contain the athletes, or responsible parties, departure information. The LOC will then arrange for poles to be returned to the Albuquerque International Sunport. Poles can be claimed at the Visitor Information Desk. Any unclaimed poles will be the responsibility and cost of the athlete.

    • An allocation of funds will be provided first to the defending U.S. Indoor Champion in each event, and then to the top four ranked indoor performers, based on the 2012 U.S. Indoor List or IAAF Top Marks list of marks achieved from November 12, 2011 - February 15, 2012 (on-time entry deadline).

      Note: Athletes, including the defending champion in all events at the U.S. Indoor Championships, must have posted a qualifying mark during the 2012 indoor qualifying window in order to qualify for a travel funding allocation.

      If the defending U.S. Indoor Champion is not entered and qualified for the Indoor Championships by the on-time entry deadline (Wednesday, February 15, 2012 by 11:59 p.m. ET), funding will then be allocated to the top five (5) ranked performers in each event who have entered by the on-time entry deadline and who have met the qualifying mark.

      For these allocations, funds will be awarded to the top ranked athletes in the distances/disciplines contested at the Championships and NOT for times or distances achieved in alternate qualifying distances/times (i.e. rank in the 60m, but not 55m or 50m). The only exception to this would be in the case of the allocation to the Defending Champion, who simply needs to be ENTERED AND QUALIFIED in order to be allocated and, therefore, could use an alternate distance/time.

      In addition to the payments as described above, an allocation of funds will be provided to those athletes who were not allocated funding prior to the Indoor Championships, but who place in the top three (3) in their event at the 2012 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

      In order to be eligible for the Indoor Championships travel allocations, an athlete must be a current USATF member in good standing; must have entered by the on-time entry deadline (Wednesday, February 15, 2012 by 11:59 p.m. ET); must have met the qualifying standard set by USATF no later than the on-time entry deadline; and must be a citizen of the United States of America who is eligible to represent the U.S. in international competition.


      • Travel funding breakdown:
        • The airfare allocation will be based on a "supersaver" fare (21-day advance purchase/Saturday night stay-over)
        • There will be a flat rate of $275 towards per diem/accommodations.
      • Travel funding distribution:
        • Athletes who qualify for pre-allocations will receive their checks at packet pick-up at the Championships.
        • Athletes who qualify for post-allocations will receive their checks via mail (U.S. Postal Service) but only after all drug testing results from USADA have become final. It can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks for USATF receive these results.

      All athletes receiving travel stipends for any domestic or international event should carefully read this notice. The IRS requires that all travel stipends be treated as taxable income to the recipient, unless valid receipts for travel costs incurred are provided. Note that the process to determine stipend amounts and qualified athletes has not changed. Travel stipends will still be provided at the event as in the past. This is only a change in our recordkeeping and tax requirements.

      No athlete or agent can receive travel stipend payment without prior submission of their Social Security Number (individuals and certain agents) or Federal ID Number (certain agents). If you have not already done so for payments received from USATF in the past, please provide this information to Sariyu Suggs by completing the following form:

      For USATF Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, an email (or paper) receipt showing your airfare and itinerary is sufficient documentation. Please forward this information to any time leading up to the event, or up to 60 days after the event.


      • Allocations WILL be taxable unless you provide the receipts mentioned above.
      • The W-9 has to be done by everyone and DOES NOT make the allocations tax-free.
      • Athletes or agents who have a W-9/SSN/FIN on file for past payments received from USATF do not need to complete a new form.

      Incorporated agents (with a Federal ID number) accepting travel stipend payment on behalf of athletes need only provide their Federal ID number and an invoice of costs incurred for each individual athlete. It is the responsibility of these businesses to properly account for the funds.

      Only those expenses that were not reimbursed or paid directly by another source (Sponsor, Local Organizing Committee, IAAF, etc.) can be applied against any domestic or international travel stipend from USATF.

      All travel stipends not supported by the aforementioned documentation within 60 days of the related event, will be reported to the IRS and the recipients as taxable income. Please consult your accountant for proper tax treatment of any amounts reported as taxable income.
